Mother, You Are Amazing

Hello Sunday!
Today is Mother’s Day. I won’t get to see my mother today, but still I am thinking much of her. I think about the life she has given, through hers and of hers, and about us five kiddos….and I squeal inside. Such sacrifices, such selflessness I can hardly imagine. She lived her life around ours for 30 years or so, and now she has to pick up those pieces and move on….crazyness. But she’s doing pretty darn good at moving on, especially as of late! But it blows my mind, the thought of her days filled with so much giving for so long. I cannot imagine such little time to oneself. Especially after my being a grand ol’ 33 years old myself with no such plans for kids in my own future yet. I am pretty sure I am going to have a couple…or adopt a couple…but I think my brain is wired more like a guy’s than a girl’s in the fact that I just can’t stop all this ramblin’ and gamblin’ and singing and dreaming. I have been that way since I was small, I never really even liked dolls, I even put stuck one of mine in the oven when it was turned on! A bit of a morose child? I be just a late bloomer I spose. But, tis no trouble to I since all my greatest and true-est girlfriends (except a sparkling two or three! and four possibly as we speak!) are still without childs. When they start telling me the news, then I will probably get on with it myself, but for now we still are all a’ rambling.
(Heather, Ruebi, Mandy, Doniella, Carol Ann, Suze, Em, countless others….) for now I thank my starry stars for the fact that we are all having this much fun!

Today’s Cup.….Yikes, the uszhe. You know, our giant bag of Costco-bought San Fran Bay Organic…..with hints of Community Coffee leftover in the grinder! It’s really tasty even though Art left the coffee pot on all morning and I got to it hours late….hmmm, perhaps I like that smoky burn flavor? (I need to get some new kinds of coffee in my life! I sent away for Community Coffee Dark Roast…but I need some other specialties to try!)

Tuesday is my favorite day of the week

It always has been….well, since I was 19. That counts for a long time! I seriously can’t believe I am 33. Well, pretty much I don’t believe it, cause I really don’t buy into numerical ages. I know some people who are 50 but are really still 15 and some people who are 20 and already 45! My grandma’s 97 and she seems like she’s about 70! Numbers, such a poor system of measuring one’s vitality!

I love Tuesdays because, unlike Monday, people always try to make Tuesdays special. Like two-for-Tuesdays on the radio stations, and Taco Tuesdays, and the word Tuesday coming up in thousands of songs I love. “Lying with you on a Tuesday Morning” The Pogues….”Tuesday Afternoon” The Moody Blues, “Goodbye Ruby Tuesday” Rolling Stones, “Tuesday’s Gone” Lynyrd Skynyrd…. Plus I always think of Tuesday as Twos-day and that means all things in couples and true love and romance. Cheesy as that was, I totally used to think Tuesdays were my lucky love day.

Notorious Monday

Hello and magic to the world out there that I know isn’t checking this yet. I know it’s only my 4th entry…..so I will continue to write every day, hoping that one day I will meet some new friends and have a small Reader Ship of my own. Starting this blog with two EVERYDAY updates is an easy way to get myself to write daily, especially since the updates are about my two of favorite subject matters ever.
Yesterday I found this place hiring in downtown Sacramento called Chocolate Fish Coffee and I got to reading all their links and found some connection to two of my favorite places ever, Ritual Coffee and Stumptown Coffee. I got on Chocolate Fish Coffee’s Roaster’s Flickr account and realized that some people are truly living entire lives FOCUSED around the perfect cup of coffee. Fine with me. A little jealous even! ….But this I wonder….if you are a true coffee connoisseur and you wind up traveling through some remote midwest town that only serves Folgers….what do you do? I suppose the truest of true coffee lovers takes their own brewing equipment and favorite coffee with them everywhere….yet then, what about camping? Anyhoo……

The Monday

Personally I don’t really DISlike Mondays. But Mondays sure get the bad rap and maybe that leaves a funny taste in my mind’s socially programmed mouth and I end up thinking….”oh geez, it’s Monday, nothing that fun could happen TODAY.” Not fair to poor old Monday! I’m cutting it’s chances without even hesitating.
Plus we watched Notorious last night. The word is hanging around…….the movie was excellent and I think I may actually be feeling nostalgic about the 90s! Or by my listening pick today- the 1980′s as well?

I wanted badly to post “Doctor Doctor” the real video, but embedding wasn’t allowed so I put up this one instead. Though I am not at all anymore (easily determined by my links to beer and coffee!), growing up Mormon sure had some perks. Like going to stake dances…..and how they always played this kind of music. It seemed so completely exciting back in the day, so fun getting dressed up and FAR MORE exciting than school dances every really were. I think somehow I felt way more at home and way prettier at church dances….?

My Sunday Smile

This photo is of our new quillet, as I like to call it, made especially for Art and I by the hands of my dearest girlfriends. They began the tradition of the “wedding quilt” after we got married (November 2006), and so I never expected to get one! Last night it was handed over to us in the presence of four the quilters themselves. Dearest thankyous to the sweet hearts of Mary, Rebecca, Carol Ann, Doniella, Suzanne, and Heather my sis.

I love Sundays. They seem more timeless than other days of the week for some reason. Like the perfect kind of day to listen to ANY kind of music, old jazz, old blues, classical, 60′s rock, gospel, Black Sabbath, The Cars, Arcade Fire, what have you! And then to go find a cup of coffee in a cafe and curl up with the newspaper and smile at strangers. Well, I stayed home so far this day, but I will probably take the old van on an outing. It’s raining here, and it’s so beautiful. Our winter here was unusually dry, and Fall really didn’t even begin until late November. Even then, some days were 80 degrees. When it’s that hot for that long in the year you can feel the earth just withering and cracking under your feet. The earth smelled pungent and deadly, there were neverending flies in our house, in November of all times! I desperately wished for Fall, as it is my favorite season, but I just kind of waded my way through Pretend Fall, you know, wearing sweaters and boots just cause it makes you feel more cozy, but really it’s only down to an oh-so chilly 65 degrees.

And then winter briefed us in December, with snow even. But by January there was more 80 degree weather. So when Winter officially arrived in February I was anxious to have Spring postponed. Today it really feels like a Spring Green rain, and it’s not real cold or anything, but there’s a bit chill in the air, and I am so grateful for the rain. California needs it desperately. This morning I woke to sheaths of rain pounding the earth, and thunder in the distance. It’s a rare occasion here. And I can tell, now that this cool May has begun, by the time June rolls around I will actually be ready for sundresses and freckly tans. I wasn’t quite ready when it faked us out two weeks ago with 90 degree sunshine…..I was…..very hesitant in my mind about it. So for now, green rain, I love you.

Today’s cup: San Francisco Bay Certified Organic Rainforest Blend Coffee Home brewed with a little soy and halfnhalf. It’s a very nice blend, not quite as dark as I usually like, but it’s organic and comes in 3 lb. bags from Costco, so I have the ‘rents pick it up for us.

Saturday Morning Chores…..?

Starting up my old blog…..again! I started this thing circa 2005 and have completely ignored it since. But luckily faithful wordpress kept my address coffeeandaudio.blogspot for me, and this morning I got to thinking how those two things are LITERALLY two of the most important “little things” in my life. Without music, I think I would be a walking zombie. Without coffee, DITTO! And it’s not that I don’t already have ANOTHER blog, or two, …etc.!~ The difference being- this blog is about coffee and audio foremost. So for each entry I will check off those TWO things. If nothing else I will always check off those two most imperative and delicious subjects. And I will try to do this EVERY DAY. Here’s todays picks. And then I most! bestly! be off to do some chores on this rainy afternoon!

Today’s cup: Community Coffee Evangeline blend, dark roast, homebrewed, with a little cream AND soy milk (the way I like it best). BEAUTIFUL.

Today’s morning audio: Tim Buckley – Lorca. Strange, but also beautiful. I really love the album Dream Letter too. This one is more abstract I would say, with hints of old deep blues.
And for those who may not know, Tim is indeed Jeff Buckley’s dad. Jeff’s ghostly vocals didn’t come out of thin air. Well actually……maybe.

memory hauntings, or just petty thoughts?

Memory. Wistful wondering misted mornings. But now, this sorry Mistress in Mourning amongst the wisteria blooming is just a slip into worlds of imagination. The sweet sense of hysteria looming over the presiding mansions of hyacinth and lupine sends this girl into childhood again, some children into the adulthood of reason.
The memories of once having “wistfulness” flicker and wince for tinny moments in her mind, but then slip away into a numb translucent mind liquid just as the contentment falls like snow to replace them. Songs to aging children come. Aging children, we are one. Though the heavy stringent rawness of longing subsides to cool warmth of darlings and dears and devoted commitments over the years, an emptiness forms where once the longing was so desperate. The longing is slowly dieing. It would give anything not to die. It begs to not make way to an emptiness that will eventually be filled by something more than it. For it lives absolutely selfishly, the most selfish illusion, and would do anything and betray anyone to avoid selflessness. It is a tragedy that so many face in selfishness. In doing so the “wistfulness” only perpetuates an illusion. Forever, an illusion. Never to come true. Never to be lived up to. So who would want to stop it from dying? No one could even try to fight against its death. It is a secret sly thing of abuse and scare and discontentment even though once it did blossom the holiest of holy daydreams and the most picturesque landscapes of torment. Those were torments that flourished so defiantly once within halls and parlors, green mountains, rooftops in smoggy towering cities, airplane seats, country roads, cafes in foreign lands, bookshops, taverns, clubs, books themselves, cathedrals, the gardens there, and the imaginative writings of 12 year old girls with souls ready to romance the everything of the world around them. Or at least be romanced by it all. Yet the war is now won. It is too late to turn back, because the overwhelming sense has occurred that yes, indeed, love does conquer all. Even if it is the kind of love that turns into the sweetest sleep, even love can conquer the wistfulness. And replacing the twisted once-torment, comes a bright bearing sun filled with the gold that is god’s pure riches in the world. Now those halls, those mountains, those roads and cafes and bookshops are seen for what they truly are, and not for a mere backdrop to an ideal love filled with torment. With love comes really, that frown turned upside-down. The whole world is now the affair, every child, every dawning, every street alone. Each bird is a world. Each butterfly, each new person, each incident stands alone now. The result of letting the wistfulness wither away, of letting it scream itself selfishly to death begging to not be ignored, is the beauty of each thing singularly.
