Who and What

These pages I am writing are just tidbits of my two favorite details in life. Coffee and Audio. I love dark strong coffee and melodies crafted with soul. I am no friend of bad coffee, or watery coffee! And to me, true music is always more soulful than technical (I am a huge fan of 80′s ballads, I love cheesy music and am the pure opposite of a music snob) This blog is about getting myself to actually write, every day, and since I already wake up and pick out the perfect cup and the perfect LP, I thought I would start writing about those two daily rituals.

Indie music snobbery has gotten a bit out of control in my book. And I have noticed that lately it seems the more abstract…..the cooler. I completely disagree. Are melodies not cool anymore? I want to HEAR the story, to SEE visions in my mind even if there are no lyrics at all. I don’t want just blathering technical perfections of instrumentation. In fact, I don’t care if a song only has one single note, I think a little bit of soul is what moves. So I am gonna start this blog simple….with simply good albums. Weird is no prerequesite.

I love the roots of American music; and I believe rock n’ roll began in the veins of the hard working and mistreated souls of the early slaves and their children and grandchildren, the blacks of the south being the true revolutionaries. They wrote rock and roll. They invented it. Sorry, Elvis. America’s greatest attributes were made by thievery. Rock and Roll is only one of many. The land itself is stolen and almost all of the country’s foundations in great feats of architecture and railroads are constructed by hands that were treated worse than poorly and never given the respect they deserve. And those people and their hands are the reason I still love this country, the rawness of the heart of America that is worthy of respect and admiration. I want to be part of the change that ensures such idiot winds never come again. Not near my soul. What the true gold is, where inspiration comes from, what inspirations exist…well I believe that blessing writes itself out of hard work, adventure, keeping an open mind, living for experience and not money, and kindness to all people and creatures.
